Orlando Criminal Defense Attorney: Maria D. Hale

The defense of men, women, and juveniles who have been charged with crimes has been the driving focus of Maria D. Hale for over 10 years. Her experience within criminal defense gives her the confidence to pursue dropped or minimized charges for her clients.

Maria's passion for criminal defense began as a result of a comprehensive legal education at the Stetson University College of Law and later experience as a Prosecutor. After receiving a Juris Doctor (JD), Maria went on to become a Prosecutor in Central Florida. As a Prosecutor, Hale conducted nearly 50 trials in front of a jury. This included a wide variety of criminal cases, such as Aggravated Battery, Weapons Assault, Theft, Possession of Cocaine, DUI, and more.

Her time as a Prosecutor allowed her to gain a studied perspective of criminal prosecution - knowledge that she employs as she defends those accused of crimes in Orlando, Florida and the surrounding communities.

Maria later became a member of the State Attorney DUI Manslaughter Special Prosecution Unit. She participated in and completed several Advanced DUI training sessions. Her experience and approach allowed her to be selected to attend the Florida Prosecution Attorney Association's "Train the Trainers Program." As an instructor in the program, she was given the opportunity to teach new Prosecutors DUI prosecution methods.

Her drive for sharing her knowledge and training the next generation of future lawyers didn't end here. Maria has coached Mock Trial Teams of bright young students in Florida high schools and universities. This includes Pinellas Park High School and Stetson University. She currently coaches Barry University's Mock Trial Team.

Jedediah was born in Newton, Iowa, but he grew up in Central Florida.

He went to Lake Mary High School, graduating Summa Cum Laude (over 4.0 GPA), while playing varsity baseball and volleyball. He attended Florida State University and obtained degrees, with honors, in both Finance and Insurance/Risk Management. Jedediah stayed at Florida State for law school where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree with honors.

He later clerked at a civil insurance-defense law firm, Henry, Buchanan, Hudson, Suber, Carter, P.A. While serving as a Fellow for the Speaker, Jedediah authored several bills which were subsequently filed in the Florida House of Representatives.

After passing the Bar, Jedediah served as a prosecutor at the Orange/Osceola County State Attorney's Office where he prosecuted hundreds of cases, which included the successful argument of uncounted motions and the trial of dozens of cases as both lead and co-counsel. He then joined the prestigious downtown-Orlando law firm of Rissman, Barrett, Hurt, Donahue & McLain, P.A., where he specialized in on-the-job injuries and accidents. During his time at the Rissman firm, Jedediah assisted in the litigation of over a hundred cases, which allowed him to work intimately with several large insurance companies.

Her passion is her pets - all of them - including 3 horses, 5 dogs and 4 cats! She enjoys competitive trail and limited distance endurance riding.

Peggy practices in the areas of family wealth and legacy counselling, including trust and estate planning and administration, elder law, small business creation, succession and exit planning, real estate transactions and animal law. In addition to her law degree, she holds a Florida real estate license. Peggy formerly held a NASD Series 7 license and health, life and variable annuities licenses. She serves as a certified FINRA Arbitrator and is also a Florida Circuit Court Mediator concentrating in family business and estate matters. Peggy holds Board Certifications from the Florida Bar in Wills, Trusts, and Estates and Elder Law.

Peggy and two friends, Kim Radcliffe and Casey Taylor have recently founded the Center for Animal Advocacy, a Central Florida law firm dedicated to legal issues related to animals and the people who love them.

Peggy is the author of "All My Children Wear Fur Coats - How to Leave a Legacy to Your Pet", an informative and inspirational guide for pet owners who want to include their pets as part of their estate plans. She co-authored the following books with Candace M. Pollock: "Special People, Special Planning - Creating a Safe Legal Haven for Families with Special Needs" designed to educate families about the planning options and protections for their special needs family members; "Loving Without a License - An Estate Planning Survival Guide for Unmarried Couples and Same Sex Partners", created to address the unique planning needs of unmarried individuals in today's society; "A Matter of Trust - The Importance of Personal Instructions" stressing the importance of supplementing legal estate planning with personal instructions; "Women in Transition - Navigating the Legal and Financial Challenges in Your Life" created for all women as they learn, live and grow throughout their lives.

She co-authored with Scott Farnsworth "Like a Library Burning - Sharing and Saving a Lifetime of Stories", addressing the whys and hows of protecting and passing on a lifetime of stories. Peggy co-authored with Deborah Roser, "Thank Everybody for Everything! Grow your Life and Your Business with Gratitude", and the companion five-year gratitude journal, "Gratitude Expressions". She lives by the daily mantra of "thoughts become things, choose the good ones."

Peggy is an active public speaker at the local, regional and national levels on estate planning and elder law topics including pet planning, special needs planning and planning for unmarried couples and same sex partners. She presents and writes regularly for the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys and WealthCounsel. Peggy has been featured on CNN Financial News, the Wall Street Journal and the Orlando Sentinel for her work in pet planning.

Charles R. Maxwell II is a Florida native. He attended the University of Florida from 1991 through 1999 where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance with Honors, a Masters in Business Administration, and a Juris Doctorate degree.
