Brett Jacob Szematowicz
Owner / Partner at Greater Tampa Law, P.L.Brett Szematowicz is originally from Chicago, Illinois, but moved to Tampa when he was in 1991. He attended high school locally at Tampa Preparatory School and graduated in 1999. Mr. Szematowicz attended college at The American University in Washington, D.C. and graduated with a B.A. in Justice. While at The American University, Mr. Szematowicz was a member of the highly selective Leadership Program in the School of Public Affairs. Mr. Szematowicz attended South Texas College of Law, located in Houston, Texas. During law school, Mr. Szematowicz interned with the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office in Felony Division B. He also interned with a highly respected federal judge in the Florida Middle District. While attending South Texas College of Law, Mr. Szematowicz was a member of the Florida Law Students Association. After law school, Mr. Szematowicz proudly served the State of Florida as an Assistant State Attorney in the Sixth Judicial Circuit for nearly four years. Mr. Szematowicz brought over 75 jury trials to verdict, ranging from second degree misdemeanors to first degree felonies. As a prosecutor, Mr. Szematowicz had the honor to serve as Lead Trial Attorney in Misdemeanor Division H, North County traffic attorney, local ordinance violations attorney, misdemeanor and felony domestic violence attorney, a member of the DUI Manslaughter squad and felony child abuse attorney. By the time he left the office, Mr. Szematowicz had cases ranging from 1st degree murder to kidnapping. After leaving the State Attorney’s Office, Mr. Szematowicz worked as an associate for a year-and-a-half in the Tampa Bay area. Mr. Szematowicz practiced in the areas of insurance defense for sinkhole, water-loss, theft and arson claims. - Q. What are some possible questions I could ask in court to get out of my citation for a broken tail lamps ?
- A: The highest fine for an improper equipment citation is $500. The best case scenario is that the police officer does not show up to the hearing and your citation is dismissed.
