- North Shore Collaborative Divorce
- On September 14th at The Danvers Library (Peabody Institute) in Danvers (9:30-11:30), I will be appearing with other professionals in a free educational program, “Chart Your Course to a Better Divorce” addressing how Collaborative Divorce may be a better way to divorce. The program will review the basic legal, emotional and financial issues commonly encountered during the divorce process. Collaborative Divorce takes a team approach to divorce negotiations. The “team” consists of both parties, their respective attorneys, a neutral facilitator to address emotional and communication challenges which may arise and a neutral financial professional to help gather and understand financial information. All of the professionals have been Collaboratively Certified. Only attorneys who are certified are qualified to practice Collaborative Divorce. The North Shore professionals will explain how Collaborative Divorce differs from divorce mediation and divorce litigation. They will also describe the Collaborative benefit of confidentiality of negotiations and the sensitive and informal approach that allows the parties to control the agenda and pace of the process.

- Q. My spouse's dad passed away in May and the estate is being questioned by my wife and her 3 siblings.
- A: Your question: "My question what rights do I have to be included in the outcome of the estate distribution among my wife and her siblings ?" Based only on what you write, none.
- Q. I filed for a divorce in February 2020. The other party couldn't be located. Is there something else i should do ?
- A: Since I do not know what you mean by filed. I will assume that you filed in the correct Court some document. Your next step is to call or email the court give them your docket number and ask what is the next step. There is no value in my trying to guess exactly where you are at. Good luck
- Q. If both parties want a divorce and don’t share any assets or kids do they still have to give financial documents?
- A: With respect your question suggests you know nothing about Massachusetts divorce. You may want to consult with a divorce attorney, at least on a Limited Assistance Basis, to avoid delay. I do not know what you mean by ‘financial documents”, however, at all divorce hearings each party will have to file a Financial Statement with the required attachments. I do not know what you mean by “no shared assets” in Massachusetts all assets are marital property and the Separation Agreement, you must present at your divorce hearing, will have to describe how marital assets will be divided.
