Joseph A. Motta was born and raised in the east bay. He attended St. Mary's College and graduated in 1984 with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Economics. He then graduated from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento in 1987. He was a Deputy District Attorney in Contra Costa County from 1988 to 2004. Over those sixteen years, he handled thousands of cases. They ranged from minor to serious and from simple to complex. He was a trial attorney on the following teams: Misdemeanor, Juvenile, Law and Motion, Felony Trials, Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Career Criminal, and Homicide. He worked in the Richmond, Concord and all the Martinez Offices and he has appeared in every Criminal Court in Contra Costa County. In his last five years, he supervised the Misdemeanor Trial Team, the Domestic Violence Team, and the Sexual Assault Team. As a supervisor, he also maintained his own case load of serious cases. While a deputy, he prosecuted a number of high profile homicide and sexual assault cases. He was the first in the county to qualify a gang expert, and he was the second prosecutor in the state to prosecute someone for assault with a deadly weapon for exposure to the Aids virus. He has a working knowledge of DNA and he has significant experience with psychiatric\psychological issues as they apply to Criminal Law. He co-authored new law as well as testified before the State Assembly and State Senate Committees, regarding new legislation.

In 2003, the Deputy D.A.'s started a prosecutor's association. Joe was nominated and elected the County's first Prosecutor's Association President. As a prosecutor, Joe also maintained a leadership position on several subcommittees with the County's Advisory Committee Against Domestic Violence. He also trained police, dispatchers, social workers, and several other professions in subjects such as domestic violence, report writing, and sexual assault. Joe is now on the board for the 100 Club of Contra Costa, a nonprofit organization that gives financial support to survivors of fallen firefighters and police officers. He continues to live in Contra Costa with his wife and children. They are involved in the community and local politics. Joe is well known and well respected in the Contra Costa Judicial System.

Thomas M. O'Connor is a founding partner of the firm and currently focuses his practice on Criminal Defense and Personal Injury. Mr. O'Connor is a 5th generation San Francisco native and comes from a long line of distinguished attorneys. His grandfather and namesake, Thomas Martin O'Connor, held the office of City Attorney of San Francisco from 1961 until he retired in 1977. His great-grandfather, also Thomas Martin O'Connor, was a famous criminal lawyer in San Francisco, and his cousin, Thomas Lynch, held the office of District Attorney of San Francisco and was a three-term California State Attorney General.

Mr. O'Connor graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1986. He attended St. Mary's College on a football scholarship and graduated in 1990 with degree in Political Science and a minor in Business Administration. In 1994, Mr. O'Connor graduated in the top of his class from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.

From 1994 to 2006, Mr. O'Connor held a position as a Deputy District Attorney in the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office. As a Deputy District Attorney, Mr. O'Connor prosecuted thousands of cases and tried over 100 jury trials ranging from DUIs to complex and lengthy special circumstance homicide cases. As a prosecutor for 12 years, Mr. O'Connor was assigned to several specialized units including Homicide, Domestic Violence, Serious Juvenile Offenders, Felony Filing, and Felony Crimes.

Mr. O'Connor also has extensive experience negotiating cases with other lawyers and judges. He has personally negotiated the disposition of thousands of cases. In addition, Mr. O'Connor has reviewed thousands of cases for the potential filing of criminal charges and understands firsthand the strengths and weaknesses of a case. These skills serve him and his clients as an invaluable asset in the investigation, litigation, and negotiation of all civil and criminal cases.

Jason S. Buckingham is a California licensed attorney and real estate broker who helps people with their estate planning issues, business issues, and real estate issues, including investments, acquisitions, and leasing. Mr. Williams is the founder of The Williams Firm and has over 21 years of extensive experience in the areas of real estate, construction, business and corporate law. In business matters, Mr. Williams has formed and maintained corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies, represented clients in the purchase and sale of businesses, represented businesses in the formation, financing, acquisition and dissolution of companies, successfully represented parties in scores of disputes and lawsuits regarding numerous types of business contracts, effectively represented business entities and their owners in disputes regarding the withdrawal or expulsion of other owners to avoid litigation, handled disputes regarding the sale of businesses, and filed and obtained trademarks from State, Federal and foreign jurisdictions.

Prior to founding The Williams Firm in 1995, Mr. Williams was a partner in the San Diego firm of Turner & Williams and an associate with Schall, Bourdreau & Gore in San Diego and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Los Angeles.
