Biography

Attorney Wiley worked extensively throughout his undergraduate and law school years in the financial services industry. During the course of this period he spent several years working with Northwestern Mutual in Philadelphia, PA and Hamden, CT. Ultimately he served as investment coordinator for a top ranked Certified Financial Planner, before transitioning his planning experience into the legal arena.

Accepting an opportunity with Withers Bergman LLP, Attorney Wiley cultivated his now thriving passion for creating expertly crafted custom estate planning documents. After passing the bar in 2009, Attorney Wiley practiced under the tutelage of Attorney Suzann Beckett at the Estate Planning Law Center, LLC. Attorney Wiley has rapidly emerged as one of the top young attorneys in the industry, starting his own firm in 2012 focusing their areas of practice in Estate, Business, Tax, and Wealth planning. Under his leadership the firm continues to grow and thrive.

Attorney Wiley believes in two fundamental principles, Estate and Financial Planning should be simple and focused on the client’s needs. He therefore works tirelessly with a team of Advisors, Accountants, and other Professionals to ensure that his clients’ needs come first… Always.

Periodically he conducts workshops on a variety of topics to financial advisors (CE Credit), accountants (CPE credit) and the general public.

Attorney Wiley lives in Trumbull, Connecticut with his wife Amy, their son Luke, his daughter Brynn (who he helped deliver in their home) and their one Sphynx cats. His hobbies include hiking, cooking and adventure blogging.

Legal Answers
32 Questions Answered
Q. In CT Back in March my moms attorney passed away in the middle of settling an estate for her. We have not been notified
A: Definitely agree with Nina. Hire another attorney and have them assist with either finishing the file or possibly getting some funds back from the first attorney. It's not always that simple though.
Q. Is there a minimum deposit amt when purchasing a probate home in CT? I believe in some states it is 10%, does this apply
A: No. There is no law regarding the size of a deposit. There are quite a few factors that go into buying a home and identifying the deposit amount. Speak with your realtor or speak with a real estate attorney. Many attorneys (my firm included) like to speak to real estate clients early in the process to avoid any issues.
Q. My husband passed without leaving a will or power of attorney. I want to close accounts that were in his name only?
A: First sorry for your loss. I know this must be a very frustrating time for you.

Once someone passes away a power of attorney would not be valid, even if you had one. What you may need to do is file with the local Probate Court. They will give you a Fiduciary Certificate. You can provide this document to all institutions and in a way it will act like a Power of Attorney.

The process can be very confusing and take quite a bit of time. Most probate attorneys will offer a free consultation to evaluate your situation and let you know if they believe you will need an attorney or can handle it on your own. The Probate Courts are great at helping unrepresented parties. Unfortunately, probate can be tricky and time consuming.

Feel free to call my office and schedule a time to speak in depth.
