Matt graduated from QUSL the same year I started there. Recently, I've heard several law students who we both took classes with refer to Matt as the "best Connecticut estate planning attorney they know." I feel similarly. I met Matt when a firm I was working at was considering breaking into Estate Planning. Over our now decade-long friendship, Matt has continued to impress me with his desire to lift up those around him. He's shows everyone around him the value of hard work and compassion

I have known Matt for practically my entire career as an attorney. He is always willing to listen. When we share a client, whether I am working on a matter for him, or working alongside him, he always pushes me to do the best I can for our clients. When we've been on the other side of a matter, he is reasonable but firm. Matthew Wiley understands what all good lawyers do - that his clients come first. It shows. He doesn't pull punches just because we're friends, but he is always fair about it

I worked for Matt in 2013 when I was just starting out as a solo practitioner. I found him to be an inspiration and knew that being around him would make me a better attorney. I was right.

Yes

Matt always puts his clients first. He does not hold back. His intelligence, ingenuity, empathy, and perseverance lead to the kind of experience that most lawyers promise and few deliver. Matt is exceptional because he doesn't know how to stop until the job is done. He can seem impatient and demanding at times, but that's because -I think - he feels the urgency to get things done for his clients so they are comfortable that their needs have been met.

Legal Knowledge: Excellent

Not only is Matt a wealth of knowledge on some of the most complex estate planning maneuvers (and willing to share this knowledge with other lawyers around him), but he is constantly expanding his knowledge to find specific, bespoke, and actionable legal tactics for his business clients. He is capable of being a savage negotiator when needed, but he does it armed with the confidence that his opinions carry the weight of a knowledgeable attorney who is continuously learning.

Legal Analysis: Excellent

I often have conversations with Matt as a sounding board for areas of law where we both have comparable knowledge. I find him to be excellent in this regard. It doesn't take much time for Matt to understand what I'm trying to achieve for my clients, or issues I have spotted that need to be addressed. Every time I discuss a matter with him, I come away with more clarity, and ideas for way to cut to the chase and get the job done.

Communication Skills: Excellent

Matt is an elite communicator. He is one of the most responsive attorneys I know and always finds a way to meet his clients and other lawyers where they are to say what needs to be said in an effective way that is both respectful and empathetic. Matt has an uncanny ability to brighten the days of any client, no matter how dire or urgent their need is. Estate Planning can be an anxiety-inducing exercise, but Matt makes it easy for his clients to digest and puts them at ease.

Ethics and Professionalism: Excellent

Too many lawyers try to talk around issues. Not Matt. He's not afraid to tell you what he's thinking. He's not one to hide the ball. He takes the ball, puts it on the table, and says - "let's look at it." Matthew Wiley is one of the most honest, fair, and deliberate attorneys I know.

If this list of skills was longer, I'd have more boxes to check. It can't be stated how valuable it is to work with an attorney who is a real person and truly treats every client as he would his own family and friends. Matt has so many clients who will be his clients for life. I don't know another lawyer quite like that,
