John F. Reed, Esq. is the founder of Rain BDM, a consultancy helping law firms of all sizes build outstanding client relationships. He trains and coaches attorneys in business development and social media, and provides firms with strategic planning, project management, and outsourced marketing department services. Having worked with lawyers and law firms for more than 20 years, John knows firsthand the challenges confronting the profession and the changing legal landscape. He began his marketing career in a Detroit advertising agency where he worked with national and international automotive accounts. He then took a different path, attending law school before joining the litigation practice of a large Midwest law firm, gaining insight into the business of law and the unique issues lawyers and legal marketers encounter each day. Seeking to capitalize on his business and legal experience, John left the practice to embark upon a distinguished career in the legal information industry, partnering with law firms to provide solutions to their business development, competitive intelligence, professional development, and practice workflow needs. A preeminent law firm public relations company then recruited John to oversee its marketing and creative groups and lead its business development efforts. In 2010, he set out on his own and launched Rain BDM. John holds a B.S. in Marketing with honors from Babson College, and a J.D., cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law (formerly Detroit College of Law). He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Legal Marketing Association, and the American Bar Association, a certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® practitioner, and a graduate of the Inside-Out Coaching program.
