3 Questions Answered
Q. Am I able to just leave with my children legally?
A: He's wrong. Mothers are presumed to be the custodial parents if unmarried at time of birth and if paternity is not established.

You are free to leave with your children. If he is abusive, you may want to consider contacting an attorney, legal aid, or your local domestic relations court to find out about civil protective orders.
Q. My friend got a debt collection letter to appear in court.
A: The question is a bit vague, but generally speaking, the debt collector (or the party owed the debt) can file a lawsuit if they have proof that the debt is valid, outstanding, and binding on your friend. They don't need a SSN to file the suit and the debt does not have to appear on the credit report - in fact, not all debts appear on credit reports.

Your friend should contact an attorney to discuss their rights, potential resolution of the debt, and other options. If your friend has been sued, then they definitely need to contact an attorney. Thanks.
Q. Must I have a 'Business Account' at a bank for my Single-Owner-LLC...or could I set-up a separate 'Personal Account'?
A: I agree. While not legally required, it is crucial to separating yourself from your corporate entity. While a separate "personal account" could probably be defended as not "co-mingling" if you keep stellar records, it is easy to maintain an independent business account to ensure no hint of co-mingling. Plus, it provides added benefits, such as streamlining accounting, payroll and distributions, tax preparation, and can help you to establish business credit. Further, always remember that corporate checks / debit cards will have the company name on them, whereas, an independent personal account would not. Your LLC is not just a shield against personal liability, it is a vehicle to establish credibility and hopefully branding in your community. Hope this helps. ... Read More
