Clyde is the best DWI lawyer in Houston. Clyde Burleson is a great DWI lawyer. He is present. He listens. He actually cares about you as a person, not just a paycheck. I spoke with 2 other attorneys before speaking with him. These were the "big names" in Houston that you hear on radio and see on the internet 50 times a day. When I called the "big" firms, I was treated like a number. I didn't speak with a lawyer who would be working my case - and certainly not the big name that did all the ads - but a low level employee who was only taking the call to feel out how much they could make off me. I guess they didn't feel like I was lucrative enough because I didn't hear back from either of them after my initial consultation. Mr. Burleson was different. I called off an ad around 8:30pm on a Monday. He picked up the phone since he advertises his cell phone. Right then, I knew I had made the right call. We spoke for about an hour. I knew I messed up and told him as much. I asked if I should just plead guilty and put it all past me and he was very clear that while he appreciated my wanting to be accountable, that it's not the right way to go. The court's don't care if you're accountable, they just want to stick you for as much money as they can get you for. It's all just a money making business for them. When he mentioned this, it was clear why the people at Harris County Jail spent more time asking me about my job and income than they dd my crime. We set an appointment for the following day and I met him at his office. Again, I met with HIM. Not an assistant. He asked what I wanted as an outcome. He asked if I had a drinking problem and if we should devote some time to that. He asked how my job was taking the news. Then he just listened for an hour while I told him everything. I wanted it to be over, ideally to go away, but I had given blood so there was little chance of that. I didn't think I had a drinking problem, but it wasn't the first time I had driven drunk. I assured him it wasn't going to happen. He liked that answer. I also told him about my job and how they were ok with it, but it definitely knocked me down a few notches in their eyes. He came up with a defense plan that was about me being accountable and honest per my request. I honestly think he could have got it dismissed and I was really tempted to ask him to do it, but I also wanted to do the right thing. In the end, he met with the judge and got me a deal that worked for me. As a first time DWI arrest, I had options for pre-trial intervention and to hopefully get this off my record. I agreed to some classes and a probationary period and that was it. I truly believe had I wanted to fight it he would have got me off. I know it. But this was the best deal for me and so far, so good. I plan to meet the terms of my probation, get the arrest removed from my record, and move ahead in life with a lesson learned. Besides the result, the biggest plus working with Mr. Burleson is just knowing what to expect. When you leave lock up, you have some papers and not a whole lot else. It's confusing. It's scary. You have no idea what to do and the courts do not make it easy for you. At all. It's almost like they want you to fail. Mr. Burleson didn't allow that to happen. I cannot recommend Mr. Burleson enough for what he did for me and how he did it. I felt heard, respected and cared for. I'm happy with the result and I'm happy to move ahead in life.
