
Chester Jianbon Shiu
Mr. Shiu leads the legal departments of Emerald Cloud Lab and Emerald Therapeutics; he also assists the founders in strategic initiatives in business and scientific computing on an as needed basis.
Prior to joining Emerald, he litigated and prosecuted patents, representing clients in a variety of fields, including machine learning, web search, communication protocols, low power chip design, telepharmacy, and modular encryption. He also advised Green Revolution Cooling on IP and litigation matters. During this time he was named a Rising Star by Texas Super Lawyer Magazine, a charter member of the Austin Intellectual Property chapter of the American Inns of Court, and co-president of the Stanford Club of Austin.
Mr. Shiu attended The University of Texas School of Law where he served as president of the Intellectual Property Law Society for two years and was a member of the editorial board of the Texas Intellectual Property Law Journal.
Prior to law school, Mr. Shiu attended Stanford University, earning his B.S. in Biomedical Computation from the School of Engineering in 2005 and then completing a two-year master’s program in one year to receive his M.S. in Biomedical Informatics from the School of Medicine in 2006. His technical expertise includes computer science with a focus on artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, electronic health records, molecular dynamics, molecular and cellular biology, oncology, and drug delivery engineering. As a scientist, he was deeply interested in the intersection between computer science and biology, particularly in leveraging artificial intelligence algorithms to solve complex biological problems.
