My mother was born in Honolulu, and her father practiced law at 110 South King Street after waiving in from the City of Boston Bar in 1928. I was born in Burma, and lived in Japan for 17 years. I went to law school in Connecticut and Tokyo. I practiced commercial transactions and corporate matters for law firms in New York, then Los Angeles. I started law school while a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories. An engineering education and background did not help with law school, but I find that many engineering principles, diligent analysis, and problem-solving thinking help with actual law practice.

I began practicing family law in 1974, litigating custody dissolutions.
I now limit my practice to mediating family law disputes with the goal of maximizing understanding and minimizing damage to children, by limiting emotional and financial expenses. I offer all forms of mediation, and I financially encourage use of transformative mediation as a method of enabling parents to listen, hear and understand each other.
