A North Carolina native, Ashton has called the Triangle home for more than twenty years.

She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Journalism and Women's and Gender Studies. Refusing to leave her Tar Heel roots behind, Ashton returned to Chapel Hill to attend the University of North Carolina School of Law. Mitch Lathrop has been practicing law for over 50 years and is licensed in California, New York, the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Supreme Court. Today he limits his practice to arbitration, mediation, and consultation and expert testimony in matters involving insurance, reinsurance and lawyers' professional responsibility. He is a former Presiding Referee of the California State Bar Court, the disciplinary body for lawyers in California. He has qualified as an expert in both state and federal courts.
