In 1994, Mickey, a native New Yorker, joined the U.S. Army Reserves and moved to Tampa to attend college. Before starting school, he deployed to Haiti for Operation Uphold Democracy. Upon returning, he studied at Hillsborough Community College and the University of South Florida, then earned his law degree from the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida.
