She accrued vast criminal defense experience as a deputy public defender in Elko, Nevada. As a juvenile justice advocate in Elko, she established a myriad of policy improvements such as abolishing the denial of "credit for time served" to children incarcerated prior to disposition as well as eliminating the juvenile detention center's policy that denied parents visitation with their children.
