Shruti Costales

Shruti Costales (she/her) is the Managing Member of Shruti Law PLLC, which is a woman and minority owned law firm in Washington, DC. Shruti has over 20 years of legal experience including several years of experience working as an in-house lawyer for Fortune 100 technology companies.
She has two decades of deep legal experience in all things Intellectual Property including but not limited to: patent and trademark application drafting; patent and trademark application prosecution; managing patent and trademark portfolios including managing worldwide portfolios; managing application filing and prosecution by partnering with foreign agents across the world; patent counseling services including preparing invalidity opinions, FTO opinions, infringement opinions, etc.; and patent litigation support services. Of note, Shruti is a former patent examiner and in the last twenty years she has drafted and prosecuted over 1000 patent applications in various technologies.
Shruti’s experience includes working in the technology (XaaS, IoT, AI, HW, and SW), microelectronics (e.g., semiconductors, integrated circuits/chips, microprocessors, memory devices, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), optoelectronic devices, etc.), electronic devices, healthcare (including biotechnology, medical devices, and pharmaceutical – small molecule and large molecule), chemical (including catalysts and polymers), automotive, and petrochemical/energy technology areas.
Shruti has extensive experience guiding businesses along with related engineering, product, and innovation teams from an early-stage product development to commercialization and launching. She has nearly two decades of experience guiding IP protection strategy and policy with clients.
Shruti is a recognized DEI thought leader in the legal profession. She has generated various white papers and guides on a variety of DEI issues. Shruti has nearly a decade of experience handling various corporate and law firm DEI issues.
