Should you consider a cohabitation agreement? In this video, Dallas family lawyer P. Lindley Bain discusses what this type of agreement entails and how you could benefit from one. A cohabitation agreement is an agreement between two non-married partners who live together and have a marriage-like relationship, but choose not to marry. There are many reasons why couples should consider having a cohabitation agreement. One of the strongest reasons is that it specifically confirms that the couple is not married and sets out how things will be resolved in the event of dissolution. This is important because if the relationship dissolves, one partner may try to falsely claim they were common-law married, which can lead to a great deal of stress and cost.
