- Apple Inc. Apple Computer, Inc. v. Burst.com, Inc. Representing Apple in a major patent infringement suit against Burst.com involving the iPod and the iTunes store, Weil Gotshal obtained summary judgments invalidating certain of Burst’s patent claims that purported to cover “faster-than-real-time” transmission. Doing so virtually gutted Burst’s case. This resulted in a settlement for far less than previous settlements obtained by Burst in similar litigations against leading technology companies.

- Applied Materials Inc. Applied Materials, Inc. v. Podlesnik Represented Applied Materials, Inc., in a trade secrets case against a senior executive (Dragan Podlesnik) who left Applied in January 2005 to join its chief tech competitor, Lam Research Corporation. WGM obtained a preliminary injunction that prohibits Podlesnik from engaging in tech-related activities at Lam; significant, given the strong public policy in California favoring employee mobility.
