Biography

Nathan Deal was sworn in as governor of Georgia on January 10, 2011, and was sworn in for his second term on January 12, 2015.
Deal was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992. Prior to that, he served in the Georgia Senate from 1981 to 1993 and was named president pro tempore in his last term. Deal also worked as a lawyer, assistant district attorney, and judge.
He attended Mercer University and received his law degree from the Walter F. George School of Law in Macon before serving as an officer in the U.S. Army. He is an active member of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville, where he has served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.
