- While attending the University of Connecticut, Maya conducted research on the synthesis of monomer units that could later be used in assembling dendritic polymers for use in enantiomeric separations in the labs of Assistant Professor Dominic V. McGrath. During her graduate career at the University of Texas, she worked on the total synthesis of two complex natural products in the labs of Professor Stephen F. Martin. Maya is the recipient of an NIH Predoctoral Minority Fellowship and has coauthored papers in several peer reviewed journals.
