I generally do not charge for an initial consultation unless other action is warranted in the case. If a representation results from the initial consultation the time associated with the initial consult is factored into the final bill. If no representation results from the consult, then there is no bill. The only exception to this billing practice is when the initial consultation is by design the representation as a whole (such as consultations where a client is seeking advice only), in which case I bill accordingly based on an hourly rate. -
