An honest review from a disappointed client
I will start by saying that this is the first and hopefully the last bad review I ever give any business or service provider.
I was so deeply disappointed I just felt like my personal bad experience could benefit other people who find themselves in
a similar situation to mine, and perhaps save them a lot of money and disappointment down the road.
Looking for a lawyer to represent me in a divorce case I was fooled by the big name company and high hourly rate, believing I will be represented by a seasoned attorney who is at the top of his game, who said it’s an easy case, only to later find out that the only area Jason was at the top of his game was the billing part.
He initially promised me a much better lawyering quality than the other party has, but later demonstrated the poorest negotiation skills I’ve encountered.
how poor? Well, I ended up paying exactly what the other party’s lawyer asked, not a quarter, not half, not two thirds - the whole amount demanded.
My other option was going to a trial where his fees could potentially cost me even more.
During a mediation he didn’t have all his facts right so I had to correct him in front of the mediator a few times, and it really seemed to me like overall he didn’t do too much homework if any, like my case wasn’t important enough.
At some point of the negotiation after the other party’s lawyer turned Jason’s counter offer down, Jason simply emailed me -
“This is what you’re dealing with”.
I had to bite my lips very hard not to reply that I hired him so HE will deal with it like a $500 an hour attorney is expected to deal with negotiating.
I didn’t send that, because that email would’ve just added to my already insanely high bill.
I believe I would’ve been in a much better position financially by hiring a lawyer at half the hourly rate or even representing myself.
I wouldn’t be complaining about the high fees if I felt like the lawyering quality was good, and I am realistic and understand that not every lawyer can win every case, But in my personal experience Jason was definitely not worth his hourly rate.
