Biography

Mr. Ira Kurzban holds J.D. and M.A. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. with honors from Syracuse University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. An honorary fellow of the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, Mr. Kurzban was recognized for his exemplary service to every aspect of the legal profession. With over 40 years as a founding partner at Kurzban, Kurzban, Tetzeli, & Pratt P.A. in Miami, Florida, he chairs the firm's immigration department.

Mr. Kurzban's impact extends beyond his law firm. As a past-national President and former General Counsel of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, he has been nationally acclaimed for his contributions to the immigration field. The National Law Journal named him one of the top twenty immigration lawyers in the United States, and he has featured in the Best Lawyers in America for over twenty-five years for his work in immigration and employment law. Repeatedly listed in Lawdragon's top 500 lawyers in the United States, Mr. Kurzban was the inaugural recipient of the Tobias Simon Pro Bono Award presented by the Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court. He has received numerous awards for his advocacy in human rights, federal litigation, and immigration law, including the Carol King Award from the National Lawyers Guild and the Lawyers of the Americas Award from the University of Miami. Mr. Kurzban's commitment to social justice extends to his involvement in non-profit organizations. He co-founded the Berkeley Law Foundation, providing scholarships for law students engaged in legal assistance programs and Immigrants' List, the first pro-immigrant political action committee in the United States.

Since the release of the first edition in 1990, Kurzban’s Immigration Law Sourcebook has been the go-to legal reference on U.S. immigration law for thousands of immigration lawyers, judges, and other government officials to turn to for reliable answers to both simple and complex issues.
