Cassandra Hine
Cassandra graduated from Valparaiso University School of Law, with honors, in 2003. Cassandra understands the needs of working families, as she attended Purdue North Central and Valpo Law School full time while also working her part-time job in a hospital laboratory and raising two young children with her husband, Ken. She began her legal career in her late 30's, so that she brings life experience as well as her legal knowledge to the table when helping her clients.
Cassandra has worked primarily out of her Knox, IN, office since 2003, although she regularly travels to courts in counties that surround Starke County, including Porter, LaPorte, Marshall, St. Joseph, Fulton, Pulaski, and Jasper. Family law (e.g. divorce, custody, child support, parenting time, parental relocation, guardianships) is her main area of practice, but she can and does regularly assist clients with general civil matters, collections matters, criminal matters, and landlord/tenant matters.
When assisting you, Cassandra encourages you to take realistic and strategic approaches to your legal matter. She attempts to impart to you a common sense, rational outlook while helping you navigate a complex, legal world. She tries to assist you in lowering your legal fees by giving you the opportunity to do some of the legwork on your case, such as collecting needed documents from various sources. She tries her best to timely return your phone calls and emails. She tries to keep you informed about the status of your matter through correspondence and by sending you monthly activity/billing statements. She tries to thoroughly explain her fee and billing practices, so that you are not left in the dark when it comes to the hard-earned money you are spending on legal fees. She tries to talk with you in an understandable, person-to-person manner, not as some stuffy, authority-figure who speaks down to you.
When not working, Cassandra's "loves" are her family and her horses. Her husband, Ken, works for the Indiana Department of Corrections and has a more-stressful, second job of living with Cassandra (just kidding, Ken!). Her teenage son, Brennan, can often be found playing his flute, piccolo, and french horn for local youth symphonies. Her daughter, Molly, is learning to ride her horse when not cheering for the wrestlers of the WWE. You can often find Cassandra and her horses on the weekends at any of Indiana's state parks, soaking up nature and galloping like wild banditos down the forest trails. As Cassandra likes to say, "The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears" (Arabian Proverb).
