New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and Jets Development LLC On behalf of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Weil Gotshal defeated a challenge by Madison Square Garden and a number of community groups to the MTA’s Board’s decision to proceed with negotiations with the New York Jets to allow the team to build a new football stadium on Manhattan’s West Side. more

Prudential Financial Inc.|Pruco Life Insurance Company In re Helig-Meyers Bankruptcy We represented Prudential as the defendant in a preference claim in connection with the Helig-Meyers bankruptcy. Our client had approximately $70 million at stake. After a three week bench trial, the bankruptcy judge delivered a complete verdict in our favor. more

ESPN Inc. Modi Enterprises, et al v. ESPN Inc., et al. Successfully represented ESPN in a $231 million lawsuit brought by Modi Entertainment Network (MEN), an Indian conglomerate involved in the cable business. The jury rendered a complete defense verdict for ESPN in a case in which MEN asserted claims for breach of contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition and breach of fiduciary duty. ESPN also won $1.8 million on its counterclaim based on MEN’s failure to make payments during the last four months of the parties’ contract. more

WorldCom Inc. In re WorldCom, Inc. (Embratel Sale Hearing) WGM successfully represented WorldCom Inc. (formerly MCI) within the WorldCom bankruptcy regarding the sale of Embratel, the Brazilian long distance concessionaire to Telmex, the Mexican telephone company. Since WorldCom had made a motion for sale approval while it was still in chapter 11, MCI had to get the Court’s approval for this sale. This representation involved multiple WGM practice groups. In the end, the court, ruled in favor of the sale. more
