3 Questions Answered
Q. Once an estate has been liquidated, how long does executor have to distribute funds to heirs?
A: More information is necessary to properly answer your question. Is this a trust estate or will probate be necessary? In either scenario beneficiaries are entitled to information and certain documentation. You may need to consult an attorney to insure the estate is being handled appropriately and in a timely manner.
Q. For listing assets in a trust, how specific does it have to be? Can I list "Chase Bank account"? Whole account number?
A: Title with the banking institution should reflect that your trust is the owner of the account(s). In order to accomplish this you should contact your bank, inform the bank of your trust and instruct the bank to transfer title from your individual name to the name of your trust. This is quite often done in person and with the use of a certification of trust document.
Q. My mother in law died and left my husband and I over $200k. She didn’t put my name on the account.
A: I unfortunately agree with Mr. Gaffney.
