Attorney Peter Sullivan is a quiet fighter. He grew up on some pretty mean streets but, since being accepted into private high school in Jersey City, he has had a passion for intellectual pursuits, including languages, arts, world history and the law.
He joined the business of the law as a proofreader for some of the best antitrust lawyers in America. Based on his insatiable engagement with content, he graduated to paralegal (without the need for paralegal training) and wound up managing their antitrust litigation office.
Needing to be convinced that lawyers can actually do good, before attending law school Peter joined the New York City Legal Aid Society's unit handling child abuse and neglect. There, with appropriate urgency, Peter absorbed the practice and concepts of the law and specialized in appellate brief writing. He continued to work full-time during his years in law school. He graduated with honors. He then joined a premiere Park Avenue white collar crime litigation department, where he involved himself in securities and accounting fraud litigation -- big and small, government investigations, and corporate and contractual disputes.
Again changing direction, Peter started handling lawyers' divorces and custody battles. He soon joined a leading Manhattan matrimonial law firm and then formed a partnership with his family law colleagues.
Peter came to Chicago to marry a former New Yorker. In Chicago, he joined the matrimonial firm Berger Schatz, where he was later elevated to partner.
Changing direction again, in 2020 Peter launched Attorney Sullivan & Associates, where he continues to practice. The firm is dedicated to widening the scope of knowledge and understanding brought to family law practice. The goal, as far as possible, is perfection and avoiding solutions on issues that could create other issues for a client.
Peter perceives his career as an arc, going forward while changing paths to be as useful to others as possible.
