Summary

M. Moseley Matheson graduated with honors from the North Carolina Central University School of Law. During law school, he developed a passion for criminal defense. This led him to seek out opportunities to cultivate his knowledge of North Carolina Traffic and Criminal law. Matheson began his legal career while still in law school as an intern at the A.C.L.U. working on their Capital Punishment Project. During this time, Mr. Matheson was assigned death penalty cases to research. While at the A.C.L.U., he also interned with the Durham County Public Defender’s Office. For his time at the A.C.L.U. as well as the Public Defender’s office, the North Carolina Bar Association awarded him a Certificate of Recognition for the Pro Bono work he did volunteering for these two organizations. After graduating from law school and passing the North Carolina State Bar Exam, Matheson went on to serve as an Assistant District Attorney for Harnett County. Since leaving the District Attorney’s office, attorney Matheson has returned to criminal defense work, handling many different types of traffic, DWI and criminal cases. Matheson is licensed to practice law in all North Carolina State Courts as well as the Eastern District of North Carolina’s Federal and Bankruptcy Courts. Recently, Attorney Matheson was asked by the North Carolina Bar Association to serve as the Managing Editor of the N.C. Criminal Law Desk Book. Additionally, he wrote both the ‘Driving While Impaired Defense’ and the ‘First Offenders’ chapters of the book. This book is provided by the N.C.B.A. as a resource to attorneys looking to get into the Criminal Defense practice in North Carolina. Matheson has also recently been honored as a ‘Top 100 Trial Lawyers’ by The National Trial Lawyers organization as well as a ‘Top 10 Best in Client Satisfaction’ by the American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys. In his spare time, Matheson enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.
