Professional Experience

: Current; John's practice is broad. He serves as outside general counsel for a large faith-based California hospital system, and has represented a range of other providers includingnursing homes indecertification proceedings, individual physicians in employment contracting, and a major nonprofit HMO during state receivership proceedings. He served as acquisition counsel to an innovative joint venture between a prominent physician clinic and a major HMO formed to acquire and operate primary care physician practices. He was a founding member of the board of directors of the largest state trade group in the assisted living industry, which turned to him to draft legislation that became the Massachusetts Assisted Living Act in 1994, a non-"health care" framework for fostering flexible approaches to enabling the elderly to age in place. He has spoken frequently on topics ranging from Stark and Fraud and Abuse laws to health care regulatory reform to HIPAA.
