Threatt has practiced in the areas of state and federal criminal defense, complex civil litigation, family and domestic relations, and probate. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and earned his undergraduate degree at Princeton University in 1978. He earned his Juris Doctor at the Howard University School of Law in 1981. He was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1999. He is a member of the following Bar associations: The Supreme Court of the State of Alabama; United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama; United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama; United States District Court for the District of Columbia; District of Columbia Court of Appeals;. He recently (March 2022) retired from the position of Senior Litigator in the Office of the Federal Public Defender in the Northern District of Alabama. He is currently an adjunct Professor in the Criminal Justice Department of Alabama State University.
