Donna M Chesteen
eDiscovery, Technology, & IP AttorneyDonna M. Chesteen, Esq., an attorney licensed in both Florida and Mississippi, is the owner of The Tech Law Firm, PLLC, a law firm whose services can best be characterized as the intersection of law and technology. She concentrates on those areas of the law that have a direct connection with technology—eDiscovery, information governance, IP, and transactional law for technology companies—to leverage her twenty years of experience as a professional software engineer and her formal education in Computer Science. She has more than two decades of software development experience and was a technical leader at Symantec prior to earning her JD and becoming an attorney. In addition, she holds both a BS and an MS in Computer Science as well as an MBA. Her combined experience and education in law, technology, and business make her uniquely qualified not only to communicate with both lawyers and IT professionals but also to understand the inherent problems between them and to facilitate legally-defensible solutions that are neither unduly burdensome nor needlessly expensive. Donna’s practice areas include eDiscovery (all phases of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model) and ESI management, information governance dealing with “big data,” social media and BYOD policies, legal issues pertaining to the development, distribution, and licensing of software, and intellectual property issues. Donna is actively involved in the legal technology community and continuously educates herself to stay abreast of the most current developments in the field. She is actively involved in the eDiscovery- and technology-related sections/committess of the ABA, the Florida Bar, and the OCBA (Orange County Bar Association). In addition, she is the Orlando liaison of the Orlando chapter of the ESI Roundtable, a community of local judges and lawyers who volunteer their time to help other lawyers and legal support staff understand and navigate the complex world of eDiscovery through educatio
