Alex Salmu
In supporting global intellectual property efforts at a tier-one automotive supplier, Alex Salmu also advises inventors, start-ups, and small businesses in all areas of IP and business law, located all over the United States. Examples include patentability and trademark assessment, patent and trademark prosecution, copyright filing, patent and trademark geographic expansion, portfolio maintenance, custom contract formation, negotiation, and contract closing.
Guarded IP's mission is to support individual inventors and small businesses that would otherwise see IP as an obstacle to success.
Before supporting automotive suppliers, in harvesting inventions and supporting in IP litigation efforts, Alex Salmu performed mechanical and medical device technology searches and wrote patentability opinions for the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) as the receiving office for Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) international applications. The International Search Authority was a contractor to the USPTO. His prior experience as a mechanical engineer, and now as an IP attorney, provides clients with a unique blend of pragmatic, yet creative solutions.
He works with engineers, inventors, managers, directors, and other executives regularly to establish viable invention disclosures and regularly counsels in strategic portfolio development. He regularly reviews, negotiates, and supports joint venture, joint ownership, technology transfer, patent licensing, assignment, non-disclosure, distribution, and other IP-related agreements.
Outside the office, Alex is committed to family and education. He is fluent in Arabic, speaks a little Spanish, and is learning more about Japanese culture and language. He is always looking to know a little more about the world around him and he’s always up for a challenge, whether physical or mental. He also keeps active when keeping up with his wife and their six kids, whether it’s exploring trails in Michigan or sweating it out at the gym.
