John and I had the same mentor, who saw promise in both of us and wanted to pass on her unmatched trial skills. Upon her passing, we took over a very serious case (client facing 10 life sentences) in a difficult court. John was phenomenal. His professionalism, preparation, court presentation, and affect with the jury was second to none. Our client walked free, and it was truly because of John's incredible work.

In addition to the trial John and I did together, we shared another client in a Federal money laundering case. I only had experience with Federal court in civil forfeiture proceedings, and was able to recommend John to handle the criminal case. I believe it is ongoing, but I know that out mutual client is in great hands.

Q. Was this lawyer an effective advocate/counselor and why?
Yes

I saw John save an innocent man from life imprisonment. The DA was convinced of our client's guilt, and the judge was even more convinced of our client's guilt. John exposed the holes in the government's case, and worked tirelessly to find our own witnesses who could show the jury what really happened. Effective is an extreme understatement when talking about John's ability.

Legal Knowledge: Excellent

I first noticed how exceptional John's legal knowledge was during pre-trial motions. Our judge was extremely biased (and livid upon our client's acquittal), but John wrote and argued probably the best in limine motions I've ever seen, and obtained critical rulings toward presenting our defense.

Legal Analysis: Excellent

From pretrial motions, to arguing about objections, to his incredible closing argument, John demonstrated not only a superb understand of the law and its intricacies, but also his ability to convey his legal analysis to the judge and jury.

Communication Skills: Excellent

Between communications with the opposing party, client, court, me, coordinating witnesses, examining witnesses, and the jury, John was always clear, succinct, professional, and extremely effective.

Ethics and Professionalism: Excellent

In the case we handled together, we were lucky to have a pretty ethical prosecutor, but the prosecutor did not agree with our mountain of reasonable doubt. John knew our client was innocent, and put his duties to our client first. Nevertheless, he was open and up front about our positions and evidence, making sure not to risk exclusion that could hurt our case.
