Incredibly Grateful I am incredibly grateful for Jeremy Saland and his efforts to resolve my arrest for criminal contempt and a family court order of protection, along with a violation of the restraining order, without any finding of wrongdoing in both courts. Without going into detail, my ex and I had broken up and both of us behaved immaturely and irresponsibly in our communications. After being served by the sheriff in Manhattan with a petition and order of protection, I immediately called my ex without reading exactly what I received. When I started to review it, I hung up immediately, but the damage was done. My ex then went to the police and filed a report against me for contempt and she and her attorney also went back to family court to file against me for violating the order because I made “contact”. After speaking to some attorneys, I hired Jeremy. Immediately after hiring him, Jeremy got to work building our defense, of which some was rightfully offense. We filed our own article 8 petition against her for her conduct and challenged the contempt charge. After months of back and forth, despite the claims and three different cases in two courts, the prosecutor offered me a plea to a civil infraction (no criminal record) to take care of the entire criminal case. My case closed without a criminal record. In family court, both my ex and I agreed to mutual orders of protection for one year without any admissions or findings. This resolved both of my two outstanding cases. Jeremy was strategic and calculated. When the other attorney tried to claim I was prevented from fighting my cases in family court because of the deal I received in criminal court, Jeremy responded with a motion to beat that falsehood back. As much as neither I nor my ex likely wanted to find ourselves in this spot, and I am hopeful we can both move forward in healthy way wherever our lives may go, but for Jeremy I would potentially have a criminal record and a decision by a judge in family court. This result would not be fair nor accurately describe what occurred, but sometimes that happens when you do not have good counsel. Thank you Jeremy! Unfortunately, amid the the pandemic, I suffered a severe decline in my mental health and a worsening of existing substance abuse issues. Unfortunately, my descent culminated in a psychotic episode during which I committed offenses that would have been unthinkable had I been in my normal state of mind. When I was arrested, the initial charges were staggering, and included felony violent offenses against law enforcement. Frightened and unable to cope with the new reality I was facing, my family and I worked hard to find a criminal defense attorney who was able to grasp the complexities of my case and who had the knowledge and experience to best position myself for the most favorable outcome possible. From the start, Jeremy was nothing short of a God send. Although the prosecution initially did not view bail as applicable to my case, Jeremy was able to secure my release from jail on the condition that I immediately entered intensive in-patient treatment at an out-of-state rehabilitation program. During my four months at this center, Jeremy worked closely with program staff and the court, and was in constant communication with my family. Jeremy ultimately was able to negotiate a plea deal under which I pled guilty to only one felony attempt charge. If I upheld my end of the bargain as outlined in the deal for the prescribed term, all charges were to be dropped at its conclusion, and my case would be dismissed in the interests of justice. Jeremy persuaded the court, the prosecutor, and representatives from the “Alternatives to Incarceration” program that my charges resulted from a mental health crisis, and were not indicative of my character, or the likelihood of future offenses. Amazing work by a Great Attorney, Saved my life I was in a terrifying and scary case involving charges of PL 130.25 and faced the possibility of SORA registration and going to jail even though I had no record. After wasting money and time with a law firm that couldn’t handle my case, I hired Jeremy. It was the best decision hands down. Amazing lawyer I was charged with a crime that I absolutely did not commit and hired Jeremy Saland. No matter what I shared or was willing to provide, the DA’s Office still moved forward. Although they made me an offer, I rejected it because I would not admit to anything I did not do even if it meant I would avoid a conviction for the worst charges. After months of stress and anxiety, we went to trial. Even though I knew I was innocent, my fear was that much worse because a jury would decide my fate and I could have ended up incarcerated and a “criminal”. Would give him 6 stars if I could There are attorneys and then there is Jeremy Saland. Jeremy became aware of my situation very early on and made contact with the police to discuss an allegation of domestic violence against me. At the time, the police wanted to arrest me and planned on doing so within the next couple of days. Unfortunately, domestic disputes, especially over child custody, can become extremely ugly. Even if an accusation is false, the police must make an arrest. Thankfully, Jeremy took control of my situation and was able to delay my arrest to make sure we were prepared. Far more importantly, after I did turn myself in on the false complaint, Jeremy was ready to speak with prosecutors who, after discussing the evidence with him, declined to prosecute the case. With Jeremy’s effort the charges were thrown out, I was released, and never had to see a judge. There is no doubt Jeremy’s experience as a prosecutor and defense lawyer allows him to get to the most important issues of a case and present a defense in the most compelling way.
