Not many lawyers would have put in the kind of time and effort that Donn did for his client. It was not easy to ferret out the truth in such a complex matter. Donn represented homeowners suing two utilities companies for starting a wildfire that impacted their home, health, and business, while I represented the Ventura County Fire Department and the California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection in their attempts to recover the costs of suppressing the fire.

Donn was incrediblly tenacious throughout the case which eventually allowed his client to prevail. Initial discovery yielded facts that could not support the most obvious theories of liability. Donn and his firm never gave up trying to uncover the documents and testimony that could shed light on actual events. It took years of battling two large companies before it was discovered that the initial information was in error and Donn and his client were right all along.

This was a case that required an understanding of utility regulations, fire science, and first-impression business valuation theories. Donn and his team put in the time and work to master all the details and to understand how they fit together to make a coherent case.

Especially on an issue of first impression, Donn and his firm were able to articulate legal theories that helped them to prevail before a jury and at the Court of Appeal
