For me the ultimate question is this: if a friend or family member were in trouble, would I recommend this lawyer. The answer is yes. If I had a family member in trouble and in need of a criminal defense attorney, I would recommend David Ridings. He is a true professional. He takes pride in his work. He works his cases hard and he works his cases early. Too many lawyers procrastinate. They do not begin to work on a case until the trial date is approaching. David works cases from the beginning. Q. How do you know this lawyer?
  • Current or Former Co-Worker/Colleague

I am a criminal defense attorney. I knew David Ridings when he was a police officer. I have known since he began practicing law. I have had many occasions to view him in court, arguing pre-trial motions, handling sentencing hearings, and in other matters. But most often, I have seen him announcing plea agreements to the court, and I have thought to myself, How did he get his client such a good deal?

Q. In the cases you were involved in with this attorney, which of the following apply?
  • Different Client, Same Side of Case

Mr. Ridings and I both practice criminal defense.

Q. When did you work with this lawyer?
I have worked with David Ridings on several occasions over the last 20 years.
Q. Was this lawyer an effective advocate/counselor and why?
Yes

David is an excellent criminal defense attorney. He is intelligent. He works hard on behalf of his clients. He is always the best prepared lawyer in the courtroom. He isn't afraid of a fight. What he offers that few other criminal defense attorneys offer is this: he is a former police officer. He knows what officers should do. He knows that they shouldn't do. He knows how detectives should investigate different types of cases. He can tell a jury what police should have done and failed to do.

Q. Please rate this lawyer on the following:

Legal Knowledge: Excellent

Mr. Ridings uses technology well. He always had a laptop or tablet with him in court. When the court is in recess, he is reading cases. Most other lawyers talk with each other or court personnel. Many other lawyers surf the internet. Mr. Ridings works. All the time.

Legal Analysis: Excellent

Mr. Ridings is innovative. When he takes a case, he doesn't just do what other lawyers have done with similar cases. He thinks deeply about each case, trying to find a new and novel legal argument, trying to find a successful defense.

Communication Skills: Excellent

Mr. Ridings is articulate. He is generous with his time. His clients are never confused about what is happening with their cases. He explains to each client, what that client is charged with, what the State has to prove into order to obtain a conviction, what possible defenses are are available to the client, what the evidence against the client is, if convicted, what the likely punishment is, and most importantly, what the likelihood of obtaining an acquittal at trial is.

Ethics and Professionalism: Excellent

Mr. Ridings is an ethical and honest man. This has been true throughout his career.
