Amanda Engel grew up in South Dakota and returned there after a brief excursion into North Dakota for a few years. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Dakota with a B.A. in political science and then University of North Dakota School of Law with cum laude honors. In 2012 she was admitted to practice law in South Dakota.

Ms. Engel has been an attorney licensed to practice in New York State for 25 years. She is currently the Chief Welfare Attorney for the Onondaga County Department of Law. In her latest position, she is responsible for management of staff and contract attorneys, providing legal representation to the County for the Temporary Assistance, Medicaid, Child Support Enforcement, Fraud, Children’s Services, Adult Protective Services, Office of the Aging and Long Term Care programs.
