Originally from Massachusetts, Sarah Karns Burman completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Miami in 1999. After a year abroad teaching in Germany she received her legal education at the University of Miami School of Law earning her Juris Doctor Degree in 2003. Mr. Karns was formerly a Captain on active duty in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps where he received the Parachutist Badge, the U.S. Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. Subsequent to active duty, he continued his service in the U.S. Army Reserves where he was promoted to Major and served as a Senior Defense Counsel and received an Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Karns completed his reserve duty in 2005.

Mr. Karnes was born in Norfolk, Virginia and he graduated from Tabernacle Baptist School, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Mr. Karnes received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pre-law from Bob Jones University in 1996. He received his law degree from the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis, magna cum laude in 2001. Mr. Karnes was a Note Development Editor on the Indiana Law Review and participated in National Moot Court Competition.
