Darrel Gardner was born and raised in Alaska. He obtained his J.D. from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. After first working for several civil law firms, he became an Alaska state public defender in the early 1990s. In 2003, he started his own private criminal defense practice. In 2008, he joined the Alaska District's CJA Panel and in 2012, he resumed public service a Federal Defender for the District of Alaska.
