About Bergen County Community Mental Health Law Project

About this Organization:
The Law Project provides high quality free legal services to Bergen County residents who have been diagnosed with a mental illness and qualify under the federal poverty guidelines.

Since 1977, The Law Project has been funded by Bergen County and the State of New Jersey. The Project currently provides legal services for civil matters.

Eligibility:
Age: Must be at least 18 years old
Diagnosis: The individual must have a mental illness as his/her primary diagnosis. An individual who is challenged by a physical/intellectual/developmental disability, organic brain syndrome, or chronic substance abuse will be redirected.
Treatment: The individual must have a history of mental health treatment and should currently be engaged in treatment.
Function Level: The individual must require substantial assistance in social skills, vocational or educational guidance and community living.
Residency: The individual must be a Bergen County resident.
