About this Organization:
The Alamo Area Resource Center maximizes the quality of life for individuals facing disabling or life threatening diseases, including, but not limited to HIV/AIDS, by providing comprehensive, compassionate, and effective rehabilitative and social services. AARC is co-located with the (University Health Center downtown) Family Focused AIDS Treatment Clinic (FFACTS), which is the largest provider of medical care for Persons with HIV/AIDS in South Texas. AARC, serving over 1250 unduplicated clients in 2005, is the largest provider of HIV/AIDS services in South Texas. AARC offers case management, mental health services, substance abuse counseling, nutritional support, transportation and emergency housing assistance to those in need. As part of the Ground Angel program, AARC also provides transportation for other populations with a variety of illnesses, including cancer, kidney disease and rehabilitative therapies. AARC staff also refer clients to any other services or resources within the region not offered by our agency. AARC remains a leader in state of the art care, and remains the only AIDS service agency to co-locate with a medical provider for "wrap around care." This care continuum has been cited by Johns Hopkins University as a “model for HIV/AIDS care.
