Q. Hello i need advice. I live in Alabama and have since 2008. Ten years ago my husband and i split up
A: I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. Abandonment and infadelity are grounds for divorce in Alabama. It sounds like you would need to hire a private investigator to help locate your son. But, if you exhaust your attempts to locate your husband, you could be able to serve your husband by general publication. You're going to want an attorney to help you through this process.
Q. A friend loaned me a rifle and I pawned the rifle with every intention to get it back. I did this to get medicine for
A: The first thing you should do is figure out why your friend would involve the police if they knew of your plan all along. What was your friend's motivation for calling the police and reporting the gun stolen? Next, once you have that figured out, explain everything to your lawyer and take your lawyer anything that corroborates what you are saying. There isn't anything you can do to beat the charge immediately. Talk to your lawyer.
Q. My friend is in federal custody and has a warrant for misdemeanor probation violation
A: There are numerous ways to take care of this issue. Everything from the U.S. Marshall service turning him over to the State to the State agreeing to dismiss the pending probation violation action. Much of the outcome depends on the attitude of your local prosecutors, the tenacity of his attorney to get the proper information to the State, and the determinations of the judges or magistrates involved. Worst case scenario, he will have consecutive sentences; this means that he would have to complete one sentence then be transferred to serve the other. As he is in Federal custody, they would likely make him serve their sentence first. The reality of the situation is that a reasonable prosecutor and a hard-working defense attorney can usually work this out. Your friend needs to maintain good communication with his attorney or attorneys and keep his head up.
