"I've been fortunate to have had the opportunity to practice in areas of law that are fascinating and challenging. More than thirty-eight years of litigating cases involving technology and business innovation means that every case is different and interesting. I am continually learning about technological advancements that I might not otherwise learn about and meeting clients who are super intelligent, entrepreneurial and adventuresome."
Spending his entire law career with Feldstein Grinberg Stein & McKee, Stanley Stein concentrates his practice in Business-Related and Commercial Litigation, including Trade Secret, Non-Compete, and Intellectual Property Litigation, including Patent and Trademark Litigation. In addition, he litigates corporate, construction and employment disputes.
In state and federal courts around the country, he has represented individuals, small and medium-sized companies, including high-technology start-ups, and very large companies, both to enforce and defend actions involving trade secrets, non-compete and confidentiality agreements, claims of patent and trademark infringement and software license agreements. His cases have involved technologies in such diverse fields as banking, robotics, finite element analysis, drinking-water filtration, aeronautics, heart-lung machines and railway signaling. Stan has enforced non-compete agreements for, among others, a $150-million national medical procedure company and a $4-billion oil exploration company. His clients have also included a company producing turnkey computer systems for medical practices, distributors of high-quality polymer materials, physicians, the manufacturer of high-torque wrench equipment, and others.
Stan received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1964, and his Juris Doctor from Duquesne University Law School in 1971, graduating with honors and as a member of the Law Review Board of Editors. In addition to being selected to Best Lawyers in America® in both 2009 and, in 2010, in the Bet the Company Litigation category, he's also been included in Super Lawyers of Pennsylvania (2007, 2008, 2009). Stan is the current Chair of the Local Rules Advisory Committee of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. In addition, he was chairperson of the 2003 Magistrate Judge Recommendation Committee of the United States District Court. He is a current and past member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County, past vice chairperson and chairperson if its Membership Committee, past chair and current member of the Federal Trial Practice Seminar Committee, the Nominating Committee, the Court Liaison Committee, Long-Range Planning Committee, and the Ad Hoc Committee on Membership Guidelines. He is also a member of the Civil Litigation Council of the Allegheny County Bar Association. From 2004 through 2008, he was an adjunct professor of law in Pre-Trial Practice and Procedure at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law.
For the past six years Stan has been a member of the Passion for Wine Charity Auction Committee of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and is the current chair of the 2010 Cystic Fibrosis Redbone Charity Fly Fishing Classic. He is a member of the Board of the Loyalhanna Watershed Association and the Pennsylvania Environmental Defense Foundation. He has two sons, both of whom are lawyers, and four grandchildren.
