Osita James Uche
Osita James is a startup lawyer, advisor, and global speaker from Africa. He is a Chevening fully-funded scholar of 2022 and holds a degree in law and a Masters in Innovation Management from the Nottingham Business School.
He is the managing partner of BlackCrest LP (www.blackcrest.africa) which has successfully advised startups that went on to close rounds of over $10 million in the last 2 years. BlackCrest offers investment deal advisory, corporate structuring, data protection and compliance advisory services.
Osita volunteers as a startup advisor at VC4 Africa, an African business support platform, where he mentors early-stage startup founders on legal compliance, product development, marketing and growth strategies.
He also serves as a community leader in the Startup School Community in Lagos. He has organised founder support sessions for over 400 startups in the Founders Cabal, Campus Tech Founders community and the Startup School Lagos Community.
Osita writes love poetry and short fiction in his spare time.

- The Nigerian University of Technology and Management is a STEM-focused institution with the aspirations of creating an African MIT. The NUTM scholars program is the University's flagship program. It entails a one-year postgraduate program in Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Design. The program selected 60 young African entrepreneurs from over 4,000 applicants as members of their founding class.

- I was part of the 10 students selected from the Nottingham Business School for the Turing scholarship scheme to undertake summer school business training opportunities in France or Columbia. The award covered the cost of travelling and staying in Toulouse France to study at the Toulouse Business School for one month.
- Chevening Scholar
- Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office
- Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarship programme. Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organisations, they offer awards to leaders to study in the UK for a one-year masters degree on a fully funded scholarship. I was selected alongside 43 other Nigerians out of a pool of over 8,000 applicants in 2022.

- • My team Surepayy won the maiden startup pitch competition organized by NUTM for the first cohort of tech scholars. The Nigerian University of Technology and Management is a Nigerian educational institution that is tryin to build an African MIT. The startup pitch competition was part of the NUTM scholars program curriculum and was created to aid the NUTM scholars in building startups out of identified problems during the program. • My team Surepayy won the first prize of $3,000 (N1.5 million).
