
Neil Leonard Padgett
Neil’s practice includes all aspects of intellectual property law with a particular focus on preparing and prosecuting patent applications for computer-implemented inventions. He has experience prosecuting applications in Canada and the United States as well as directing prosecution of applications in European and Asian jurisdictions.
Some of the fields and technologies Neil has worked with include online advertising, natural language processing, semiconductor packaging, control systems, graphics hardware, online gaming, and various other data processing innovations and mechanical devices.
Neil is qualified as a lawyer in both Canada and the United States. During his legal studies, Neil served on the Senior Board of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law Review as Senior Editor for Intellectual Property and was awarded the academic prize for highest grade in intellectual property law. Prior to commencing a legal career, Neil gained extensive industrial experience in software engineering including with a major multinational computer company in Washington state and with a prominent open source software vendor. His industrial experience spans a variety of technology areas including distributed systems, cloud computing, and various data storage related technologies. Through his experience, Neil brings to the practice of law a deep technical expertise coupled with a practical understanding of product development.
