Michael Wilson McGraw
Attorney at Cochran & Chhabra, LLC
PHILOSOPHY
My experience as a former felony prosecutor in two (2) jurisdictions has shown me what can happen if you hire the wrong lawyer. By keeping a limited caseload, I can forge a truly personal relationship with each client, thereby strengthening the attorney-client relationship. I firmly believe that the most effective defense can only be effectuated when there is a strong foundation of trust between attorney and client. I do everything in my power to earn that trust.
A limited caseload also allows me to be aggressive, not merely encourage my client to take the first plea offer and resolve the case quickly. I have the time and resources to visit the crime scene, locate witnesses, work with defense investigators, zealously litigate pretrial motions, and prepare each case as if it were going to trial. With this strategy, the client has an improved bargaining position with the prosecution, as well as a better chance of winning at trial.
I know the stress and uncertainty that comes with facing criminal charges. I believe that every client deserves an attorney who they can pick up the phone and call anytime they have questions or concerns throughout the case, as well as an attorney who will fight hard to get them the best possible outcome. That is what I'm here to do. My motto is that clients should be treated more like friends and family, not just case files.

- Attorney Profile
- Q. I took Alfred plea the judge that over saw the proceedings has recently been indicted and killed himself
- A: I would suggest contacting competent counsel. You may eligible to file for post-conviction relief if you are on parole/probation or file a Writ of Error Coram Nobis, which is similar. You are not going to be the only one with this issue. I expect there will be numerous filings from others.
- Q. My Cousin is demanding $150,000. What part of the Annapolis Police department handles extortion?
- A: If your cousin is seeking 150K in exchange for not disclosing an illegal act he/she believes you have committed, I would suggest contacting counsel before contacting the police. An experienced attorney can advise of your rights against self-incrimination as well as your rights as a victim.
- Q. If a judge's ruling is ambiguous because of sarcasm, how should the defense go about challenging the ruling?
- A: You're going to have to provide more information. Also, if the Defendant is entitled to an appeal of the Court's ruling you may be on a tight time schedule.
