Lemmings v. ToyoboLead trial counsel for a major Japanese fiber manufacturer in the defense of nationwide consumer fraud class actions, federal claims, foreign claims, suits by states attorneys general and personal injury claims arising from the sale of high-performance fiber used in the manufacture of hundreds of thousands of bullet-resistant vests. United Healthcare and AARP v. AdvancePCSLead trial lawyer representing United Healthcare (“United”) in this multi-million-dollar deceptive trade practices case. United operates a prescription discount card program for AARP, which provides participating members with discounted prices on certain prescription drugs and other services such as screening for potential harmful drug interactions. Upon assuming responsibility for the AARP account, United discovered that the previous administrator of the program, AdvancePCS, was improperly diverting customers away from United. Mr. Lyle’s team successfully obtained a preliminary injunction against AdvancePCS. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit affirmed the preliminary injunction. International Wire Group v. National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh PennsylvaniaLead Weil Gotshal trial attorney representing International Wire Group in this $50 million insurance coverage case filed in state court in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Lyle and his team secured a preliminary injunction and proceeded with expedited discovery, taking over 50 depositions and arguing dozens of motions over the course of a few months. Mr. Lyle, along with co-counsel, achieved a victory for International Wire Group following a three-month trial. Talalai v. Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.Assisted in the management of Cooper Tire’s defense of more than 30 class actions nationwide and a multi-district litigation that arose from claims asserted under state consumer fraud statutes involving the sale of over 170 million tires. Mr. Lyle analyzed the complex technological aspects of the case, and assembled a team of experts that was crucial to the overall defense. Mr. Lyle participated in negotiating a novel and extremely favorable settlement for Cooper Tire. Under this unique settlement, Cooper Tire paid no money to class members, but rather provided extended warranties to tire purchasers and created a consumer education program that was endorsed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Shane/UnitedHealth GroupAssisting in the defense of UnitedHealth Group (“United”) in multiple class actions that have been consolidated into a multi-district litigation in Miami. This litigation involves RICO and other claims brought by physicians against various managed health care companies seeking, among other things, that the managed health care companies alter their business practices. United and the other managed care companies vigorously dispute these claims as having no merit whatsoever and being contrary to public policy. Mr. Lyle is a key part of the defense team that Weil Gotshal has assembled to represent United in this complex case.
