- Activities: Mr. Kampelman has held numerous diplomatic posts and government positions including: Ambassador to the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (1980-1983); Ambassador and Head of the United States Delegation to the Negotiations with the Soviet Union on Nuclear and Space Arms in Geneva (1985 to 1989); and Counselor of the Department of State (1987 to 1989). Mr. Kampelman serves as Chairman Emeritus of the American Academy of Diplomacy, Georgetown University's Institute for the Study of Diplomacy and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He also serves in numerous capacities at the American Bar Association. Mr. Kampelman has served on the faculties of Bennington College, Claremont College, the University of Wisconsin and Howard University. In addition, he has served on the governing boards of a number of universities and has received 13 honorary doctorates. He currently serves on a number of corporate and not-for-profit boards.
