Mark Cheser
All Superior and Municipal Courts in NJ
I was born and raised in NJ. graduating Emory Law School, Atlanta Georgia in 1978. I was a Governor's Intern assigned to the Union County Prosecutor in 1977 while in Law School and became an Assistant Prosecutor there,1980-83. I was assigned to the Appellate Section, Juvenile Section, Assignment Judge's Trial Team, Elizabeth Project Trial Team, and the Narcotic Strike Force, handling over 300 files and trying 28 case to verdict. I learned how the police and prosecutors think and act.
I have only practiced criminal defense since leaving the Prosecutor's Office, first as a partner at Nassberg & Cheser 1983-1988, and then a solo practitioner from 1988- to the present, altogether 35 years. The N.J.Supreme Court designated me a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney in 1989, a distinction held by less than 1% of the bar. The Supreme Court has reissued this certification four times through to the present. I was named Master of the Richard Hughes Inn of Court, the highest designation of that organization, an association of trial attorneys and Judges. Super Lawyer magazine has listed me numerous times. All of these entities can be contacted to verify the status and method of awarding recognition.
I have handled cases from murder to speeding and have represented thousands of clients. I have appeared in nearly all the Municipal and Superior Courts of N.J. as well as the Federal District Court of N.J. I handle all cases in the office personally.
My office philosophy is to prepare and argue every case, no matter how minor the charge, as if it is a homicide. I always attempt to resolve matters with the least risk to my clients at the lowest cost possible. The aim in every case is dismissal or acquittal. I hate to lose.

- Q. If we did a pre-nup doc but just signed it ourselves (as a couple, no lawyer/notary), can we get it notarized later on?
- A: More information is needed. Don't know for sure but why not. All the notary is doing is attesting that the signature belongs to the person before them. Worse comes to worse sign it again in front of them.
- Q. What does non db detention mean?
- A: More information is needed. Do you mean "db' or "dv". A DV detention would be an arrest and hold based on the domestic violence nature of the criminal act. Otherwise I do not know what a DB is.
- Q. I’d like to have my felony theft conviction from 1990, in the state of Maryland, expunged.
- A: You need to speak to a Maryland attorney,
