Loyd J. Bourgeois is a personal injury attorney and founder of the Louisiana-based law firm, Loyd J Bourgeois Injury & Accident Lawyer. Since 2010, Loyd has devoted his practice to helping individuals who’ve been injured due to someone else’s negligence—from car and truck crashes to serious and catastrophic injuries—navigate the legal system with confidence and clarity.
Originally trained as an engineer, Loyd left a successful corporate career to pursue a legal degree from Tulane University School of Law, graduating cum laude. His shift to personal injury law was inspired by a firsthand experience with the insurance process that revealed just how confusing and unfair it can be for everyday people trying to recover.
Over the last decade, Loyd has earned a reputation across Southeast Louisiana, especially in his home base of St. Charles Parish, for his straightforward approach, deep local roots, and relentless dedication to securing fair compensation for his clients. He and his team at LJBLegal have developed tested strategies to guide clients through overwhelming times while reducing stress and fighting for real results.
As a trusted voice in the legal community, Loyd has authored several plain-language legal guides to help Louisianans understand their rights after an injury. His mission is simple: help injured people get the justice they deserve, without the runaround.
A lifelong Louisiana resident, Loyd lives in St. Charles Parish with his wife, Lindy, and their three children. He is also a proud supporter of local schools, youth sports teams, and community organizations, carrying his commitment to service beyond the courtroom and into the community he calls home.

- Q. Could I go to jail for a car accident without insurance in Louisiana?
- A: Unlikely you will face jail time for this. While I am not a criminal lawyer, I have helped clients without vehicle insurance in the past and none have gone to jail solely for lack of vehicle insurance. If you are hurt, you should speak to an attorney however. While you may not have had insurance, the at-fault party driving your vehicle may have been covered by their own insurance.
- Q. Legal options for car accident injuries when insurance lapsed
- A: Unfortunately, if the crash occurred in March 2023, the matter is prescribed - meaning your claim is lost. If the date you entered is wrong and the crash occurred recently in March 2025 - you may have options. Even though the insurance on your vehicle was lapsed and the claim may be subject to Louisiana's No Pay, No Play law, depending on a number of facts and the amount of damages, you may be able to file a claim. I would suggest reaching out to a lawyer right away to discuss the specific facts of this in more detail.
- Q. My husband and I were rear ended in shv on 4/5/24 we have been represented for injury to insurance company. However the
- A: I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. If you were injured in the incident, and the insurance company is not offering a fair settlement, you should retain a personal injury lawyer in Louisiana who can collect all of the evidence of the incident as well as your medical treatment to ensure you receive full financial justice.
