Summary

Laura Maria Esseesse is originally from Florida. Laura relocated to North Carolina in 2006 to obtain her undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University. She graduated from Wake Forest in 2010 with a B.A. in English, with Departmental Honors, and minors in Journalism and Middle East and South Asia Studies. Laura continued her education at Wake Forest University School of Law where she obtained her law degree. In law school, Laura was a student advocate in the Elder Law Clinic and Appellate Clinic. In Appellate Clinic, Laura, along with another student, advocated for their client before the Court of Appeals of North Carolina and the Supreme Court of North Carolina. Laura also served as Executive Editor of the Journal of Business and Intellectual Property Law and was a member of Moot Court. She was the recipient of CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Elder Law and Health and Medical Research for Lawyers. After being admitted to practice law in North Carolina in 2013, Laura continued to hone her trial advocacy skills. In July 2014, Laura participated in the 28th Annual Family Law Trial Advocacy Institute, hosted by the American Bar Association and National Institute for Trial Advocacy. The week-long program in Boulder, Colorado consisted of intensive, fast-paced training in a simulated courtroom environment. Community involvement is especially important to Laura. While at Wake Forest University School of Law, Laura was active in volunteer efforts through the Veterans Advocacy Law Organization (VALOR). This student-run organization provides assistance and support to North Carolina veterans while raising awareness of the many veteran-related issues that affect our community. Laura was chair of the Community Outreach Committee for VALOR. As part of this committee, Laura planned the Second Annual VALOR 5k to celebrate and show appreciation for veterans, their families, and their supporters. She also helped organize and participated in free legal clinics.
